Hickory Museum of Art has created the Art for All After School Program which provides homework assistance to children from low income families attending kindergarten through fifth grade. After homework assignments have been completed, students participate in art activities that will assist them in improving their knowledge of math and reading.To implement this project the HMA needs volunteers able to serve as tutors Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5:30 pm, to help students solve math and reading assignments. They also need volunteers to help with art making activities. Tutors should be enthusiastic about working with children, patient, and responsible. Awareness Dinner and Candlelight Vigil **Convo Credit**
The Family Guidance Center of Hickory and First Step Domestic Violence Program will hold their Annual Awareness Dinner and Candlelight Vigil in Observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Thursday October 30, 2014 at 6pm. Speakers of the hour will include Ron and Jan Kimble, Jamie’s Parents. Dinner will be available for $10.00 per person but will not be required in order to attend the vigil to remember those we have lost to domestic violence and to honor those who have lived to tell their story.
