Volunteer Opportunities

New Hope Baptist Church is looking for 8 tutors for their After School Program between the hours of 2:30-4:00pm. The church is located on 26th Avenue NE, Hickory. Anyone interested in volunteering at this site, please give Josh Thomas a call at 828-291-2566.

Hickory Museum of Art has created the Art for All After School Program which provides homework assistance to children from low income families attending kindergarten through fifth grade. After homework assignments have been completed, students participate in art activities that will assist them in improving their knowledge of math and reading.To implement this project the HMA needs volunteers able to serve as tutors Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5:30 pm, to help students solve math and reading assignments. They also need volunteers to help with art making activities. Tutors should be enthusiastic about working with children, patient, and responsible. J. Iverson Riddle Development Center is looking for volunteers and performance groups to entertain and work with their residents. For more information click here

American Red Cross Blood Drive: All blood drives are held in the Shuford Gym Lobby from 10am-2:30pm. You must have a valid picture I.D. to give blood. Appointments are strongly encouraged but not required. Upcoming blood drives are Monday, November 10th, Tuesday, February 3rd, and Monday, April 13th*Community Service Convocation Credit*

Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry: If you enjoy being outdoors and have a few extra hours, the GHCCM could use your help. They are need of volunteers to mow grass, pull weeds, and help them get their grounds and building ready for the fall. Contact Sarah Willis at smwillis@ccmhickory.com if you would like to help.

Tutors Needed: Jenkins Elementary School is looking for mentors (especially African American males) to come hang out with the students and help with homework, be a lunch buddy, or just be a presence int he classroom. Contacts: Cynthia Parrish and/or Patricia Middleton
